How to read it

The Hong Kong Observatory's 2028 Gregorian-lunar conversion table identifies the Wu-shen year of the Monkey. Wu is the Heavenly Stem conventionally associated with yang earth, while Shen is the Earthly Branch associated with the Monkey. Earth Monkey is therefore a calendar designation, not a guaranteed personality or event forecast.

Under the common public zodiac convention, the annual animal changes on Lunar New Year. The official table places the first day of the first lunar month on 26 January 2028. The Observatory's 2029 table places the following Lunar New Year on 13 February 2029, so this public Monkey-year interval ends on 12 February 2029.

Li Chun is a separate solar-term boundary. The 2028 table lists Spring Commences on 4 February. Destin Field uses the exact Li Chun boundary supplied by its documented calendar calculation to determine the year stem and branch, while the lunar month and lunar day remain products of lunisolar conversion.

This order creates a short boundary interval in 2028. From 26 January through 3 February, a public Lunar-New-Year animal list has already entered the Monkey year, while a Li-Chun-based chart still retains the preceding Ding-wei year stem and branch. The result is a method difference, not a mixed animal sign.
